He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief.” This is what the prophet Isaiah wrote about the Messiah 700 years before Jesus’ ministry on earth. In this sermon, Pastor Josh shows us that Jesus claimed to be the Messiah, the Anointed One who was sent by God to save his people. And just as Isaiah predicted, Jesus was despised, rejected, and nearly murdered, not because he claimed to be the Messiah, but because of what he had come to do as the Messiah.

Who was John the Baptist, and what was his message? Jesus called John the Baptist the greatest man who ever lived. The reason why he was a great man was because he brought a great message: “Prepare for the Lord by preparing your life!” John was called by God to call people to repentance, so that they would be ready for God’s imminent judgment. In this sermon, Pastor Josh explains John the Baptist’s call to repent, and why it matters for us today.

Our culture thinks it has Jesus figured out. It says that Jesus was merely a man who started a new religion centered around ethical teaching. That caricature of Jesus isn’t too difficult for our culture to tolerate. The Jesus portrayed in the Bible, however, couldn’t be more different.
