Scripture: Luke 11:14-28 | Speaker: Josh Tong | Date: November 26, 2017

A lot of people assume that they can relate to Jesus in such a way that they’re not for him without being against him. According to Jesus, that’s just not true. In this sermon, Pastor Josh explains why this is not only an untenable option, but a dangerous one as well.

When it comes to prayer, we can get so caught up in asking ourselves whether we’ve been praying, that we forget to ask ourselves what we should be praying for. Join Pastor Josh as he explains how the Lord’s Prayer in Luke 11 sets the priorities for our prayers.

What’s the famous parable of the Good Samaritan all about? Many rightly interpret this parable as exhorting us to show greater compassion to others regardless of their race, wealth, or religion, but they miss the central point of how we become such people. Join Pastor Josh as he answers this crucial question from Luke 10:25-42.

The Gospel of Luke – Radical Discipleship

luke_banner_small
Scripture: Luke 9:51-62 | Speaker: Josh Tong | Date: October 22, 2017

When we present the gospel and are rejected, we are tempted to give up or water down the message. We emphasize the benefits of Christianity rather than the responsibilities, the gains rather than the losses. Why do we do that? We do that because we lose confidence in the power of the message we proclaim and in the infinite worth of Jesus Christ. In this sermon, Pastor Josh shows us how Jesus responded to rejection. Unlike us, he never stopped calling others to follow him, and unlike us, he never failed to warn those who would follow him of the radically high cost of doing so.

The Gospel of Luke – Three Faults of Jesus Followers

luke_banner_small
Scripture: Luke 9:37-50 | Speaker: Josh Tong | Date: October 15, 2017

It can be easy to read through the Gospels and laugh at some of the silly things Jesus’ first disciples said and did. They doubted the power of God even though they were eyewitnesses to Jesus’ miracles. They argued back and forth about which of them was the greatest when they stood in the presence of the Greatest One. We think, “How weak they were, and how vain!”, — and they were — but we forget that we are just as weak, and just as vain. In this sermon, Pastor Josh reminds us that Jesus’ correction of his first followers remains just as relevant now as it was then, and he shows us how our Saviour’s correction applies to believers living in the 21st century.

Without Wisdom, We Can’t Know What To Trust, or What Matters Most

Scripture: Proverbs 30:1-16 | Speaker: Tim Kerr | Date: Oct 8, 2017

In this message, Pastor Tim explains the first half of Proverbs chapter 30, which details the underpinnings necessary for a person to handle boundaries appropriately. This will instruct all of us in the necessary wisdom we need in order to walk close to God, and to avoid the disastrous consequences that accompany reckless boundary breaking.

The Gospel of Luke – Christ Revealed

luke_banner_small
Scripture: Luke 9:28-36 | Speaker: Josh Tong | Date: October 1, 2017

The central question of the Gospel of Luke is, “Who is Jesus?” Up to this point in the Gospel, people have come up with all sorts of answers. Some said he was an ancient prophet. Others said he was a heretic who needed to be eliminated. Finally, in Chapter 9, Jesus himself answers the question, first with words, then with a display of his true glory. In this sermon, Pastor Josh teaches us about the significance of Jesus’ Transfiguration and shows us that, if we are to deny ourselves, take up our crosses daily, and follow Jesus, we need to know him as he truly is: the glorious, majestic, and powerful Son of God.
