The Gospel of Luke – Coming to Jesus

luke_banner_small
Scripture: Luke 7:1-17 | Speaker: Josh Tong | Date: July 2, 2017

The miracles of Jesus have rightly been described as ‘teaching in action’. They are visible signs of invisible realities performed in order to reveal the person and work of Christ more fully to us. In this sermon, Pastor Josh explains how two of these miracles reveal two key characteristics of Jesus that all must believe if they are to come to him with humble faith: the authority of Jesus, and the compassion of Jesus.

Scripture: Luke 6:27-49 | Speaker: Josh Tong | Date: June 25, 2017

We are taught that, when we encounter an enemy, we have two options: fight or flight. We either stand our ground or we run away. In this sermon, Pastor Josh explores the third option that Jesus gives to us: love your enemies, do good to them, pray for them, and forgive them. How can we become such merciful people? Only by knowing Jesus, the One who showed us mercy when we were His enemies.

Scripture: Luke 5:33-6:11 | Speaker: Josh Tong | Date: June 4, 2017

Who was Jesus? Many would say he was a religious reformer who had come to revive a religion that had largely lost its way. In this sermon, Pastor Josh explains that Jesus didn’t just see himself as a reformer. He saw himself as the center of all religious life. And who does the center of religion belong to? No one but God himself.

The Gospel of Luke – Soul Surgery

luke_banner_small
Scripture: Luke 5:12-32 | Speaker: Josh Tong | Date: May 28, 2017

If you had the choice of being an eye witness to any miracle of your choice, what would it be? Would you want to see a dead person rising from the dead? Would you want to see a child with cancer healed? Would you want to see a blind person see? These would all be amazing miracles, but there is one miracle that surpasses them all. In this sermon, Pastor Josh explains that the greatest miracle of all is done in the soul, and the only person equipped to perform this miracle is Jesus Christ.

The Gospel of Luke – The Rejected Saviour

luke_banner_small
Scripture: Luke 4:14-30 | Speaker: Josh Tong | Date: April 30, 2017

He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief.” This is what the prophet Isaiah wrote about the Messiah 700 years before Jesus’ ministry on earth. In this sermon, Pastor Josh shows us that Jesus claimed to be the Messiah, the Anointed One who was sent by God to save his people. And just as Isaiah predicted, Jesus was despised, rejected, and nearly murdered, not because he claimed to be the Messiah, but because of what he had come to do as the Messiah.

Easter Sunday: Born Again To A Living Hope – 1 Peter 1:3-4

Scripture: 1 Peter 1:3-4 | Speaker: Josh Tong | Date: April 16, 2017

The resurrection of Jesus Christ was the most important event in the history of the world. It revealed Jesus as the true Son of God, and it displayed his definitive victory over Sin, Satan, and Death. And now, because of the resurrection, all who trust in Jesus can have something that has been described as “the only thing between man and the abyss”: hope. We can have a living hope in a living Saviour, for Christ has conquered all. In this sermon, Pastor Josh helps us understand the nature of hope, and what it is about the resurrection that gives believers a “living hope”.

Looking To Jesus (A Good Friday Sermon)

Scripture: Hebrews 12:1-2 | Speaker: Josh Tong | Date: April 14, 2017

Two thousand years ago, Jesus Christ suffered and died for sinners all over the world. Now, Jesus calls us to put our trust in him, in order that we may be forgiven of our sin and brought back into a joyful relationship with God. But as German theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer once said, “When Christ calls a man, he bids him come and die.” In this Good Friday sermon, Pastor Josh reminds us that trusting Jesus means following him on the path of suffering. It is a journey that would be impossible for us to complete by ourselves. But with Jesus as our sustainer, and Jesus as our ultimate prize, we can be confident that we will finish it.
