The Gospel of Luke – Three Portraits of Jesus

luke_banner_small
Scripture: Luke 2:22-52 | Speaker: Josh Tong | Date: March 26, 2017

Our culture thinks it has Jesus figured out. It says that Jesus was merely a man who started a new religion centered around ethical teaching. That caricature of Jesus isn’t too difficult for our culture to tolerate. The Jesus portrayed in the Bible, however, couldn’t be more different. In this sermon, Pastor Josh shows us the true nature of Jesus’ work and identity as described in Luke Chapter 2, and he calls us not just to follow Jesus, but to worship him.

luke_banner_small
Scripture: Luke 1:57-80 | Speaker: Josh Tong | Date: Mar 12, 2017

We live in a culture characterized by promises that are either half-kept or not-kept. Promises as routine as those we make to our kids to spend time with them, to promises as sacred as marriage, are routinely dishonoured and discarded. In this sermon, Pastor Josh shows us how God, through the person and work of Jesus Christ, shows himself to be perfectly faithful in keeping his promises, whether they are promises made to us now, or promises made to his people thousands of years ago.

luke_banner_small
Scripture: Luke 1:26-56 | Speaker: Josh Tong | Date: Feb 26, 2017

Are you a person of faith, who at the same time struggles with deep uncertainty? We often assume that uncertainty means the absence of faith. But is that true? In this sermon about Mary, a teenage girl who would be chosen by God both to carry the Saviour of the world in her womb and to be an example of faith to generations of believers, Pastor Josh teaches us that Mary demonstrates how a particular kind of uncertainty can in fact be consistent with faith.

The Gospel of Luke – God’s Plan For A Doubting Priest

luke_banner_small
Scripture: Luke 1:1-4 | Speaker: Josh Tong | Date: Feb 12, 2017

We live in a world of doubt. People doubt all sorts of things, from their marriages and jobs to their purpose in life. It comes as no surprise, then, that people also doubt their beliefs about God: “Is God real? Does God love me? And could God ever use me?” In this sermon, Pastor Josh looks at the story of Zechariah, the doubting priest, and shows us that, though the journey from doubt to faith may be painful, it is through that pain that God shows his love for us.

luke_banner_small
Scripture: Luke 1:1-4 | Speaker: Josh Tong | Date: Feb 12, 2017

Some would say that “faith” and “certainty” are incompatible. They would say that, if something takes “faith” to believe, one can never be “certain” that it is true. In this introduction to a new sermon series on the Gospel of Luke, Pastor Josh explains that the book of Luke was written to reconcile “certainty” with “faith”, and it does so by showing us the incredible life and teaching of Jesus Christ.

MALE AND FEMALE HE CREATED THEM: Part 9 – The Satisfying Intimacy of Friendship

mf_banner

Scripture: John 15:12-15 | Speaker: Josh Tong | Date: Jan 22, 2017

It is commonly believed that the greatest love can only found in marriage. If that’s true, then single people will never experience the full depths of human intimacy. But is that true? Jesus said, “Greater love has no one than this, that someone should lay down his life for his friends.” In this sermon, Pastor Josh explains how the biblical vision of friendship holds out hope for the most intimate of relationships to everyone, regardless of their marital status, and regardless of their sexual orientation.
